Kristine focuses on two alternative firing techniques to achieve the complex, unique finishes that mark her work. By Saggar firing in a pit, each piece develops an individual organic design depending on the seasonal variations in available materials and firing conditions. In contrast, Raku firing allows for more structured designs and brighter, bolder colours from glazes. By burnishing her vessels to a very smooth finish, not only are her pieces eye-catching, they are also wonderfully tactile. She also enjoys sewing and works with textile remnants she has available to make pieces to ‘be loved’. Inspired by making things for her own family.
